A bit about me:

I'm a Product Designer, previously from the world of office management, which has given me great experience understanding and empathising with user problems. I love getting down into the fine details of a project and making intuitive and impactful designs which people enjoy using.

What I'm up to now:

I work at Underdawgs; an innovation studio which is part consultancy, part company builder. We work with Startups, SME's and Corporates alike to provide end-to-end services including Research, Design and Delivery phases. I am involved on client projects, as well as our internal business development. Outside of my role, I have taken on extra responsibility and enjoy hosting events for our remote team to connect together in person.

Education

Professional Diploma in UX Design from the UX Design Institute (accredited by Glasgow Caledonian University). I've also undertaken a number of short courses covering Figma and Graphic Design.

Hometown

Born in Essex, now based in East London.

If I wasn't a designer...

My Instagram algorithm is always giving me ocean related content so I'd love to do something which would help save our seas, like a marine biologist or researcher!

Why UX Design?

As I was exploring potential careers, a friend who works in tech suggested I look into something called 'UX Design'. Though it was a totally new term to me, it was something that grabbed my attention immediately.

The more I researched UX, the more blown away I was - it was the first role I'd seen that combined everything I loved: creativity, problem solving, variety, and understanding people.

I decided to go all in so completed a UX diploma alongside my full time office manager role. I was so passionate about UX that I took on freelance work while still running my other business doing sewing alterations.

When Underdawgs offered me a product design role, I jumped at the chance and have been thriving ever since, gradually taking on more responsibility. I'm confident UX is exactly where I belong.

Hobbies & interests

Music

From as young as I can remember I have loved listening to music. I’ve got a great ability to learn lyrics to songs, but unfortunately not blessed with the vocal talent to have made it big time. I put this skill to use instead by going to as many gigs and festivals as I can!

Last gig:
Kylie, Shepherds Bush Empire

Next gig:
Jessie Ware, Alexandra Palace

Sport

Swimming has always been my favourite form of exercise — and I love anything else water based including paddle boarding, kayaking and surfing. In future I’d like to live by the sea and learn how to dive.

After four years living in London wishing I knew how to get around on two wheels, I challenged myself last summer and had a cycling proficiency lesson. Now I’m fully confident on the roads and love to get from A to B in half the time of walking.

Sewing

Whenever I want a break from the screen, sewing is where I turn. Seeing a garment gradually come together is so satisfying, and you can’t beat being able to tell someone that you made it when they compliment your outfit!

Learning to sew as a hobby also led me to set up my own business offering alterations and repairs. I’m passionate about the environment so focus on reducing textile waste by altering and upcycling client’s garments to be loved for years to come.
